Emergency Department Closures
*NEW* The Edson Hospital Emergency Department is CLOSED until 8am July 15th, due to no physician coverage. Virtual ED may be available, depending on physician availability for low acute cases only. EMS & Patients will be diverted to Whitecourt (95KM), Westview Health Center (Stony Plain - 167KM) or Misericordia (198KM).
*NEW* The Coronation Hospital Emergency Department is CLOSED until 8am July 15th, due to no physician or locum coverage. ED will also be CLOSED from 6am July 16 to 8am July 17th Virtual ED may be available pending physician availability, for low acute cases only. EHS EMS will be diverting patients to Castor (36KM), Hanna/Stettler (96KM).
*NEW* The Tofield Hospital Emergency Department remains CLOSED until 0800am July 15, due to no physician or locum coverage in the region. RN’s will monitor the ER for any walk-ins and arrange transport as required. EHS EMS & Patients will be diverted to Grey Nuns Hospital (58KM) or Camrose (59KM) depending on patient needs.
*NEW* The Hardisty Hospital Emergency Department is now CLOSED until 7am July 15th. Closures due to no Physician/Locum Coverage. EHS EMS & Patients will be diverted to Wainwright (57KM), Daysland (74KM) or Provost (87KM). Residents asked to call 911 for emergencies or 811 for non-emergent issues.
*NEW* Beaverlodge Hospital Emergency Department, is now CLOSED until 8am July 15th due to no Physician or Locum coverage available. ED will also be CLOSED from 8pm July 16 to 8am July 17th. RN’s will monitor the Emergency department for any walk-ins. Virtual ED may be available, depending on physician availability for low acute cases only. EHS EMS & Patients will be diverted to Grande Prairie (42KM).
*NEW* The Bow Island Hospital Emergency Department will be CLOSED from 8pm July 14th until 8am July 15th. ED is OPEN from 8am to 8pm Tuesday to Thursday, & 7am Friday to 8pm Monday. EHS EMS & Patients will be diverted to Taber Hospital or Medicine Hat Regional Hospital (58KM).
*NEW* The Two Hills Emergency Department will be CLOSED as of 8pm July 14th until 8am July 15th. ED Open 8am to 8pm Tues-Thurs & 8am Fri through to 8pm Monday. Closure due to lack of physician/locum coverage. Virtual ED may be available, depending on physician availability for low acute cases only. EHS EMS & Patients will be diverted to Vegreville (45KM), St. Paul (60KM), Viking (72KM), Lamont (74KM) or Vermilion (95KM).
*NEW* The Hinton Hospital Emergency Department will be CLOSED as of 9pm July 15th until 7am July 16th. Closures due to no Physicians or Locums in region available. Virtual ED MAY be available pending physician availability, for low acute cases only. EHS EMS & Patients will be diverted to Edson (87KM), Whitecourt (185KM), Drayton Valley (228KM) OR Sturgeon/Edmonton (290KM). Stroke Bypass from BC/AB Border to Edmonton due to closure.
*NEW* The Smoky Lake Hospital Emergency Department will be CLOSED as of 4pm July 16th, until 8am July 17th due to no Physicians, or Locums available. Virtual ED MAY be available pending physician availability, for low acute cases only. EHS EMS & Patients were diverted to Lamont (63KM), Fort Saskatchewan (82KM), Strathcona (109KM) or Royal Alex (117KM).
*REMINDER* The Grimshaw Hospital Emergency Department is CLOSED NIGHTLY from 7pm to 9am, due to no physician coverage. Virtual ED may be available pending physician availability, for low acute cases only. EHS EMS & Patients will be diverted to Peace River (25 km), Manning (83 km), McLennan (100 km), or Spirit River (112KM). Residents asked to call 911 for emergencies. Reduced ER Services for »1,396« days & counting!
*REMINDER* The Boyle’s Emergency Department is CLOSED NIGHTLY from 8pm to 9am daily, with only 4 ED Beds available. EHS EMS & Patients will be diverted to Athabasca (45KM), Westlock *No OB Services* (110KM), Fort Sask (124KM) or YEG (145KM+). Hospital has had reduced services 1,474 Days & counting!
*REMINDER* The Consort‘s Emergency Department Closure, has been EXTENDED Indefinitely. The ED has been closed for **1,427** days and counting! Priority is keeping the LTC open! EHS EMS & Patients will continue to be diverted to Castor (85KM), Provost (81KM) or Oyen (102KM).

OBGYN Unit Closures/Diversions;
*NEW* The Viking Hospital OBGYN Unit remains CLOSED until 8am August 1st. This includes all Emergency/Urgent D&C Services at the hospital. OBGYN was scheduled to re-open Today (July 14th) but was unable to, due to no clinical staffing available. EHS EMS will transport presenting patients to Wainwright (75KM), Camrose (81KM) or Grey Nuns (124KM).
*NEW* The Ponoka Hospital OBGYN Unit was Closed as of 6am July 11th, and was to remain closed until sometime on July 13th. OBGYN Status still shows closed on the dashboard - have been unable to get a confirmed update. Closure was due to clinical staffing shortages. During this time all presenting patients are being diverted by EHS EMS to Wetaskiwin (40KM), Lacombe (29KM) or Red Deer (60KM) depending on requirements.
*NEW* The Edson Hospital OBGYN Unit & Services will be CLOSED from 6am July 17th until 8am July 20th. Closure due to no clinical staffing available to keep the unit operational. All presenting OBGYN patients will be diverted via EHS EMS to Hinton (89KM), Drayton Valley (142KM) or Edmonton (200KM+)
*REMINDER* The Barrhead Hospital OBGYN Unit closure has been EXTENDED until 7am August 1st. OBGYN Unit remains CLOSED due to No Staffing available. All presenting OBGYN patients continue to be diverted by EHS EMS to Sturgeon 100KM or Edmonton 120km.
*REMINDER* The Slave Lake Hospital OBGYN Unit & Services remains CLOSED. Scheduled C-Sections may go ahead, if staffing is available. Patients are being diverted to Sturgeon Hospital (230KM) or Edmonton (250KM). Closure due to lack of staffing to maintain services. OBGYN has been closed for 1,178 Days!
*REMINDER* The Westlock Hospital OBGYN Unit remains CLOSED. Closure has been EXTENDED until Dec 1st, 2026. The Unit has been closed for 1,394 Days. OBGYN Patients continue to be diverted to Sturgeon Hospital (68KM) or Edmonton (86KM) via EHS EMS if required.
*REMINDER* The Sundre Hospital OBGYN Unit & Services remain CLOSED until July 1st, 2026!. The OBGYN unit has been closed for ** 2,291 days**. Patients are diverted to Red Deer (102KM) or Calgary Hospitals (122KM) depending on needs.
*REMINDER* The Rimbey’s Hospital OBGYN Unit remains CLOSED Indefinitely. The Hospital OBGYN Unit has been closed for 1,758 Days and counting! Expectant moms are continuing to be diverted to Ponoka (49KM), Red Deer (66KM) or Rocky Mountain House (75KM).
*REMINDER* The Three Hills OBGYN Unit remains CLOSED Indefinitely. Patients continue to be diverted to Drumheller (65KM), Olds (71KM) or Calgary (119KM - 135KM) depending on services mom & baby require! Closed for 1,671 Days and counting!
